Navigation Bar

How Do I...

The Navigation Bar appears at the left side of the Sage 50 main window and offers access to "pages" called Navigation Centers. They provide information about and access to Sage 50:

When you click the section representing one of these Navigation Centers, the panel to the right of the Navigation Bar displays information related to that area of the program.

Refresh

Click to update the company data that currently appears in the main Sage 50 window. If you're working in a network environment, this might mean that you'll see changes made by another Sage 50 user or users working in the system.

You may have to wait a moment for the information to appear; Sage 50 will automatically refresh a Navigation Center whenever you select it.

Note: If you have selected Update the Business Status and Navigation Centers only when the Refresh button is clicked in Global Options, Sage 50 will not automatically refresh the Navigation Center. You will need to select the Refresh button to update the information.

Security Settings

The information and access points you see in the Navigation Center are controlled by your user security settings. Depending on these settings, you may see more or fewer features in the Navigation Centers than other Sage 50 users. For a better understanding of security settings and how they affect your access to parts of Sage 50, see your administrator.

Limiting access to the Navigation Centers: If you're the administrator for Sage 50 security, you can decide what sections of the Navigation Center a user can view and/or work with. Tell me more about this.

SmartPosting Status Indicator: If you are using SmartPosting, you will see a status indicator below the Shortcuts letting you know if SmartPosting is running, stopping, stopped, or stopped due to an error. If you are not using SmartPosting, you will see an Activate SmartPosting link which will take you to the Maintain Company Information screen where you can select to use the SmartPosting posting method. Tell me more about SmartPosting.

ClosedSet a default page

You can make any of the Navigation Centers the default page. Whichever one you set as the default page will appear each time you open the current company in Sage 50. To set a default page,

  1. Right-click the section representing that page. For example, if you want to set Customers & Sales as the default page, right-click this section of the Navigation Bar.
  2. In the menu that appears, click the Make this the default page option.

ClosedUse the Selection Bar

The name of the currently selected area appears in a >Selection Bar> at the top of the window, directly below the Menu Bar. This Selection Bar also contains the Search Help text box and button, which provide quick access to the Sage 50 Help index.

Just type in a word or phrase you want to look up, and click the Go button. Sage 50 will pop up the Help window, with the Index tab to the front, and display the most closely matching word or phrase in the index.

ClosedUse the Button Control Bar

Right below the Selection Bar is another bar containing a group of buttons that let you work with the Navigation Centers displayed in the Sage 50 window. There are also buttons that let you change the system date and current accounting period.

ClosedUse Shortcuts

At the bottom of the Navigation Bar is a section entitled Shortcuts. For each new company, the Shortcuts section displays default shortcuts. They take you quickly to Sage 50 windows that you'll use in your business on a day-to-day basis. Just click the link, and the relevant Sage 50 window will appear.

Customizing Shortcuts

You can also customize Shortcuts to match the needs of your business. You can choose which shortcuts you want to appear here by either clicking the Customize link OR by clicking the right mouse button beside an individual shortcut.

When you click the right mouse button, a menu appears with two options:

Remove: Click to remove the shortcut altogether.

Customize: Click to customize the shortcuts. The Customize Shortcuts window appears, giving you options for changing the Shortcuts section.

More Shortcuts

If you add more than ten shortcuts, you'll see a More Shortcuts link at the bottom of the bar. Click this link, and the additional shortcuts will appear on an second menu to the right of the Navigation Bar.
