To Post Journal Entries (Using SmartPosting Posting Method)

If your company is using theSmartPosting posting method, transactions will automatically be posted by the posting service. The service cycles through the database regularly and posts any new transactions.

Note: You can use the SmartPosting Manager to get information such as how many transactions need to be posted, the last time posting occurred, and how many transactions were posted in the last posting cycle. You can also use the SmartPosting Manager to stop and restart posting by the posting service. Go to File>SmartPosting Manager to open the SmartPosting Manager.

To Post Journal Entries (Using Batch Posting Method)

If your company is operating in batch mode, you must post all journals to the general ledger before printing certain reports, changing accounting periods, or closing the fiscal year. You permanently distribute the entries you choose to the general ledger.

Before posting, select the Save button in transaction task windows after they are entered.

Note: You can print journal reports and check unposted transactions before you post. Also, if operating on a network, all users must exit the Sage 50 company before posting journals.

  1. From the Tasks menu, select System, then Post.

If this option is not available, then your company is more than likely set to Real-Time mode, or you do not have access to this area because of passwords.

  2. Choose which journals you want to post, or select all.

Note: Before you can change accounting periods, you must post all journals.

  3. To begin posting, select OK.

When finished, all transactions within the journals you chose (including transactions that are dated for future accounting periods) are permanently distributed to the general ledger.
