Sage 50 Accounting Connection Manager
The Sage 50 Accounting Connection Manager controls requests from Sage 50 Accounting and third-party software to connect to your company's data. The Connection Manager must be installed on the computer or server where your company data is stored.
There are three ways of accessing the Connection Manager:
- Open the Start menu and choose Sage 50 Accounting Connection Manager from the Sage 50 Accounting program group.
- Click the system tray icon.
- Open the Connection Manager from within Sage 50 Accounting by selecting Setup and then Connection Manager.
When the Connection Manager is running, you will see a Sage 50 Accounting system tray icon on your desktop (usually located in the bottom right corner). When you hover over this icon, the status text shows you how many connections are being used.
Note: The Sage 50 Accounting Connection Manager cannot be installed on a network-attached storage unit or network drive.
Connection Manager Information
If you use one the above-mentioned methods to open the Connection Manager, you will see the following information:

- Running. Tells you if the Connection Manager service is running or not. Once a company file is opened, you can work on your company data even if the service is closed.
- System service. Tells you if the Connection Manager is registered as a Windows service.
- Total connections. The number of connections that the Connection Manager is managing.
- Active companies. The number of company files that are open on your computer.
- Port. The port number used by the Connection manager.

Memory buffer size (in MB). The amount of system memory allocated to cache company data used to populate reports, search/lookup results, and record lists in Sage 50 Accounting.
Tips: If a large number of records and transactions are stored in your company database, and you have sufficient RAM installed on your computer, you may be able to fine-tune the performance of Sage 50 Accounting by increasing the memory reserved for Connection Manager operations. Be careful! If you set this number too high, you may prevent other applications from running, including Sage 50 Accounting.
We recommend that you increase the buffer size in increments of 10MB, and never exceed 60% of total physical RAM installed in your PC. If you are unable to run other applications after increasing the buffer size, click the Default button to reset the buffer to it's default size.
You can manually edit the Buffer Pool Size setting in the ConnectionManager.ini file. This setting will overwrite any existing value for innodb_log_buffer_size set in the MySQL dbengine.ini file.
Number of connection attempts. The number of times that the Connection Manager will attempt to establish a connection with a Sage 50 Accounting database. You can manually edit the Connection Attempts setting in the ConnectionManager.ini file.
Tip: If you are accessing company data over a network, increasing the number of connection attempts can help solve connectivity issues attributable to insufficient network bandwidth, speed, or reliability.
Transaction timeout. The threshold in seconds that a connection will wait for a lock on a database row. If the timeout is exceeded, the transaction will produce an error. You can adjust the timeout (innodb_lock_wait_timeout) in the MySQL dbengine.ini file located in the C:\Program Files\winsim\ConnectionManager\MySqlBinary\5.0.38 folder.

Start/Stop Service. If the Connection Manager Service is not running, click the button to automatically start the service.
Tip: If the service is running but the Connection Manager is unable to connect to your company data, click the button to stop the service, and once the service has stopped, click the button again to restart the service. You can also start or stop the service by right-clicking the Sage 50 Accounting system tray icon , and then selecting Start Service or Stop Service from the local menu
Note: You must be an administrator on the local PC to start or stop the Connection Manager Service.
Other Options
The Connection Manager is set up to handle most company requirements for connection requests. If, however, you want to change any of its settings, you can do so by editing the ConnectionManager.ini file.
