Enter a Revision
How Do I...
Follow the steps below to make changes to components
in the bill of materials. When you make changes to the bill of materials
for an assembly item that has been used in a transaction, you either enter
a new or edit an existing revision.
- From the Maintain
menu, select Inventory Items.
The Maintain Inventory Items window appears.
- Select the Item
ID of the assembly item that you want to enter a revision for,
then select the Bill of Materials
tab.
- Select the Revisions
button. The button is located at the bottom of the tab on the right side.
The Revisions window appears.
- To
create a new revision, select the New
button from the toolbar.
To edit an existing revision,
first select a revision in the list to edit, then select the Edit
button from the toolbar.
Depending upon your selection, either the Create
a New Revision or the Edit an
Existing Revision window appears.
- Select the Effective
Date for this revision. The effective date is very important because
it determines when this revision will be used by Sage 50 to build assemblies.
- Make the necessary changes to the bill of materials.
You can use the buttons in the window to Add, Remove, Move Up, Move Down,
Reset All, or Clear All items in the bill of materials.
- In the Note
field, type information that will help you identify why the revision was
made. This note will appear in the Revisions window along with all of
the other revisions that have been made for this item. If a note is not
entered, Sage 50 will automatically enter a generic note listing the
date, time, and user who entered the revision.
- When you have finished making changes to bill
of materials, select the Save
button to save this revision.
Note: If you save
a revision that precedes the currently active revision, saving may take
several minutes. For example, let's say you have an assembly created on
January 1, 2016 and an assembly created on March 1, 2016. If
you now add a revision dated February 1, 2016, the assembly created on
March 1, 2016 must be unbuilt and then rebuilt with the revision dated
February 1, 2016. Updating the records may take several minutes. A message
will appear to indicate that the records are being updated.
