Forms Design Options

How Do I...

These are display options you can set up for the Forms Design window. To access these options, select the Options toolbar button in the Forms Design window or right-click a blank area and select Options from the pop-up menu.

Display

Ruler: Select this option to display a ruler on the top and left sides of the form you are working with in the Forms Design window. The ruler will appear in inches or centimeters based on your selected grid options.

Placeholder text: Select this option to display placeholder text (xXXXX) or numeric templates (-NNNN.nn) for each data object on the form you are working with. Clearing this option displays the actual data field name for each data field on your form.

Fold marks: Select this option to print fold marks on the form. These marks will show you where to fold the printed form in order for it to fit into a standard envelope. You may reposition the marks in the forms design window by clicking them with the mouse and dragging them to the desired location on the form.

Commands: Select this option to display command objects on the form you are working with. Commands display as a red C in a gray box. Command object on form

Margin Cropping: Select this option to crop or cut off objects outside the margins of the form. To see the effects of this, select the Preview button.

Outline OLE Objects: Select this option to place a dotted line or border around OLE objects. This outline is useful for placing the object; it does not print.

Order Number: Select this option to display the order numbers next to each object on the form you are working with. Order numbers display as red numbers in a yellow block. Order number example

Grid/Copies

Show Grid: Select this option to display a ruled grid in the Forms Design window. This can be helpful when you are placing or aligning form objects.

Lines or Dots: You can display the grid as dotted lines or more widely spaced dots. Both options are identical in terms of accuracy or calibration when aligning objects with the snap-to options. This is strictly a cosmetic preference.

Inches or Centimeters: Select the one you prefer. The coordinates for each object's size and location, the design window ruler, and the cursor position box all reflect the measurement option you select.

Horizontal Snap to Grid: Selecting this will force objects to line up with the nearest horizontal grid line (whether shown or invisible). When this option is selected, it is easy to create many objects and to align them quickly.

Vertical Snap to Grid: Selecting this will force objects to line up with the nearest vertical grid line (whether shown or invisible). When this option is selected, it is easy to create many objects and to align them quickly.

Number of Copies: Select or enter the number of copies of the form to print by default. (You can change this at printing time if you print from the Select a Report or Form window.)
