Activate the Auto Correct Option
How
Do I...
Activating the auto-correct feature of Spell
Check is a two-part process: selecting the Auto
correct misspelled words option in Spell Check options, and specifying
"auto-correct actions" in one or more of the custom dictionaries.
Both procedures are described below.
To select the auto-correct option
- From the Options menu,
select Global. The Maintain
Global Options window appears.
- Choose the Spelling tab.
- Select the Auto
correct misspelled words option.
- Click OK.
to close the Maintain Global Options window.
Note:
Spell Check performs the automatic corrections by following the "auto-correct
actions" that are specified in the custom dictionaries. For example,
in order for Spell Check to automatically change “teh” to “the” it must
be set up to do so in a custom dictionary.
To add auto-correct actions to a custom dictionary
- From the Spelling tab
of the Maintain Global
Options window, select the Custom
Dictionary button. The Custom
Dictionaries window appears.
- From the Files
drop-down list, select the custom dictionary to which you want to add
words and their associated auto-correct actions.
- In the Words
field, type a word as you commonly misspell it. (For example, you might
enter teh here.)
- In the Other
word field, enter the correct spelling for the word. (For example, the.)
- Select an auto-correct
action from the Action drop-down
list. Tell me more about the various choices?
- Click the Add
Word button. Spell Check adds the word and its associated action
to the custom dictionary.
- Continue adding words
to the dictionary using the steps above. When finished, select the Close button.
In addition to using the auto-correct feature
to replace one word with another, you can instruct Spell Check to ignore
specified words. For example, if you enter "Bluegreen" in the
Words field and select Ignore
(skip) from the Actions
list, Spell Check will treat Bluegreen as a correctly spelled word.
