Restore a Sage 50 Company Backup after a Failed Data Conversion from a Previous Version

How Do I...

If a data conversion fails (for example, your computer locks up), you must restore the backup completed prior to the conversion and try the process again. Data conversions are required when you install a product upgrade; in some cases, a product maintenance update requires data conversion. Rather than uninstall a Sage 50 upgrade or product update, you can restore your old company data in a new, temporary company folder using the new version of Sage 50.

  1. Start the updated version of Sage 50, if it is not already running.
  2. From the File menu, select Restore.
  3. Select the folder and previous data conversion backup file you want to restore.
  4. The data conversion backup file is typically in your original company data folder (not CONVERT, which you just created). The default file name for conversion backups is BackupV#.ptb (where # indicates the current version number—for example, BackupV9.ptb). Sage 50 backup files use the *.ptb file extension.

If you previously selected the Include company name check box in the Data Conversion wizard, the backup file will be prefaced by your old company name.

  5. After selecting the correct .ptb file, click Next.
  6. Select to restore to a new company.
  7. The Restore Options window appears, letting you decide which files you want to restore:
  8. Select the Next button. Verify your choices, and then select Finish.
  9. During the restore process, Sage 50 displays a progress indicator.

Note: Depending on the quantity of data, the restoration process may take a while to complete. Be patient and do not interrupt the process. If you interrupt the restoration process, you might damage the data.

After you have restored your company data, the Data Conversion wizard will appear again.
