Set Up Customer Sales Taxes
How Do I...
If you are responsible for collecting sales tax when selling items or
services to your customers, then you must set up sales tax IDs. These
sales tax IDs can be applied to customer invoices and customer records to calculate
proper sales tax for your customers.
You have two options. Select the first option if you are setting up sales taxes for the first time.
Option 1:Set up a sales tax ID using all new sales tax agencies
- Click the Sales Taxes navigation aid on the Customers & Sales Navigation Center. This will start the Sales Taxes wizard.
- On the Set Up Sales Taxes window, select Set up a new sales tax. Click Next.
- On the Set Up New Sates Tax window, enter the appropriate information. For more information on the fields on this window, click here. Click Next when you are done.
- On the Add Sales Tax Agency window, enter the appropriate information for the new agency. Click Next.
- If you indicated that you needed to create more than one sales tax agency for this sales tax, you will be returned to the Add Sales Tax Agency window so that you can create another sales tax agency. For more information on the Add Sales Tax Agency window, click here. Click Next after you enter each agency.
- On the Sales Tax Entered window, complete the fields at the top of the window and verify that the agency information is correct. Then, click Finish to continue.
Option 2:Set up a sales tax ID using existing agencies
- Click the Sales Taxes navigation aid on the Customers & Sales Navigation Center. This will start the Sales Tax Rates wizard.
- On the Set Up Sales Taxes window, select Set up a new sales tax. Click Next.
- On the Set Up New Sates Tax window, enter the appropriate information. Tell me more about what to enter on this window. Click Next when you are done.
- On the Add Sales Tax Agency window, select the drop-down arrow to the right of the Sales Tax Agency ID field. This will open a list of existing IDs. Select the one you want to use. This will complete the field information. Click Next.
- If you need to add other existing agencies, repeat step 4. Otherwise, enter information for any new agencies associated with this sales tax. Click Next after you enter each agency.
- On the Sales Tax Entered window, complete the fields at the top of the window and verify that the agency information is correct. Then, click Finish to continue.
