Edit the ConnectionManager.ini file

Do not edit this file if you are not sure which changes to make. Check with your Sage 50 Accounting consultant, network administrator, or Customer Support before proceeding.

To edit the ConnectionManager.ini file:

  1. Open the folder:
  2. Open the ConnectionManager.ini file with Microsoft® Notepad or another text editing program.
  3. Make your changes to the port number, number range, or connection limits.
  4. Save the file and close it.

Note: You must be an administrator on the local PC to edit this file.

[settings]

The [settings] options control the ports that are used by the Connection Manager.

Start Port The starting port number used for connections to the database. This number must be lower than or equal to the End Port. 13540 1024- 65535
End Port The ending port number used for connections to the database. This number must be greater than or equal to the Start Port. The range between the Start and End Ports determines how many databases can be open at once on the computer. 13579 1024 -65535
Connection Manager Port The port number to which the Connection Manager listens for connection requests. This number cannot be the same as either the Start or End Port numbers. 13531 1024 - 65535
Max Connections The maximum number of simultaneous connections allowed for the Connection Manager. 50 1- 9999
Connection Attempts The number of times that the Connection Manager will attempt to establish a connection with a Sage 50 Accounting database. 4 10
Buffer Pool Size The amount of system memory allocated to cache company data used to populate reports, search/lookup results, and record lists in Sage 50 Accounting. 56 MB 56 - 4000 MB

If you are using Sage 50 Accounting on a network, every computer has its own Connection Manager installed on it. Every workstation refers to its own ConnectionManager.ini file to determine which port to use to connect to other Connection Managers on the network. If there are [clients] options in the ConnectionManager.ini file, the [clients] settings are used.

[clients]

This section appears in the ConnectionManager.ini file if your company data is stored on another computer. It shows you the name of the computer on which the data is stored and the port used to connect to data. If you connect to multiple company files stored on different computers, there will be a list of computers in this section.
